Historic signage in St. Louis

St. Louis is one of the top tourist destinations in the country. With a population of a little over 300,000 in the Metropolitan area, there are dozens of businesses and attractions that have pre-dated most of the their customers. St. Louis has a lot of history that can be seen through the aging of their historical signs that stand in place today.

  1. Anheuser-Busch– The AB brewery has been around since 1852 and in 1966 was recognized as a United States National Landmark. Anheuser Busch has several signs that can be seen from many of the highways running through St. Louis. A St. Louis staple, Anheuser-Busch has a widely recognized logo that has been displayed on signs throughout the city. One of which you can even see driving on interstate 55.
  2. The Fabulous Fox Theatre – The Fox was constructed in 1927 and has since seen some of the world’s top acting and preforming talent, like Chuck Berry and Keith Richards. The sign out front of the theatre lends itself to being as recognizable as Radio City Music Hall and the Chicago Theatre.
  3. Broadway Oyster Bar – For over 35 years, Broadway Oyster Bar has been a St. Louis hot-spot for New Orleans style cuisine and music. Their unique sign can be seen from South Broadway just as you’re entering the downtown area.
  4. Blueberry Hill – This restaurant and music venue is located on Delmar Boulevard, which has also been named one of the most famous streets in America. Blueberry Hill is known for its old collectors items which are placed all along the restaurant. It’s also been home to many famous celebrities and musical performances.
